In like manner also in the Festival Internacional de Cine de Las Palmas the Canarias Cinema section has included some other titles by filmmakers from our islands. The documentary feature film A house in the countryside by Domingo J. González will be joined by short films The wandering island by Pablo Borges, The things we love by Pablo Vilas and Space Settlers by Fernando Alcántara. These last three are featured in the #CanariasEnCorto2024 catalogue and together are representative of the myriad of genres and perspectives of our local film industry.

A few days ago the Festival Internacional de Cine de Las Palmas announced the titles selected for this year's edition and we're very happy to share that Carnival Time, the short film directed by Antonio Munáiz, will be participating as part of the Short Film Official Section. Starring Mara Reina and Emma Hernández, the film creates a contrast between the grief of the protagonist after a hard break-up and the euphoria of the carnival celebration.

The festival will take place from April 19th - 29th in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

The Festival Internacional de Cine de Lanzarote just announced the films selected in the 24th edition of the contest and we are delighted to share that three of the short films managed by #Digital104FilmDistribution will be participating in this year's edition. Sour Milk by Sergio Muñoz and José Ángel Lorente Pavón (#CortosQuercus2023) will be competing in the Sección Nacional - a section dedicated to films from all over Spain-, while Patata by Emilio González and Life in a second by Pablo Fajardo will be part of the Sección Canaria - only for films made by filmmakers from the Canary Islands. The festival has gained national recognition over the years and is a qualifying festival for the Premios Fugaz and collaborator of the Premios Goya.

On May 20th - 25th.

The Bifocal Film Festival, a student-run event that seeks to support films made by students, has selected four of our short films to participate in this year's edition. The titles that will be traveling to Philadelphia this week are La Aldea by Joel Rodríguez, Melody's murmur by Fabio Barber, Sweety Christmas by Manuel Flix Fuentes and El vídeo de Brais by Víctor García.

The short film The Wheat Curse by the brothers Pablo and Álvaro Montes Sánchez has been selected as part of the short film official competition in the Festival de Cine de La Almunia (#FESCILA). The title amplifies the voices of refugees dealing with the difficulties of suffering form celiac disease in the Sahrawi camps, a reality overshadowed by the region's ongoing conflict.

From May 4th - 11th in Zaragoza.

Just as Mohamed Dih, the protagonist of The Time after the Rain, goes through the process of returning to the place he once called home, the feature film directed by Nina Solà, Pol Picas and Júlia Girós will also be coming back to the region where their story was born. The film has been selected in the FiSahara International Film Festival, an event created by and for the Sahwari people to raise awareness about the ongoing conflict on Western Sahara.

This year's edition will take place from April 29th - May 5th in the region of Ausserd.

The Balloon, the short film directed by Hugo Suárez, returns to Germany to participate in a special event made up of short films that have passed through past editions of the Braunschweig International Film Festival.

This is the event called 'Kurzfilmfrühstück' – something like 'Short Film Breakfast' –, which is being held this Sunday, April 7, starting at 10 in the morning, in the city of Hallenbad.

The musical short film directed by Hèctor Romance and titled I want to sing will be participating in the Festival La Fila de Cortometrajes held in Valladolid next week. Brought to you by Cor de Rock D'Encamp, a educational project centered on music production, the title conveys a story of a not so distant future in which pollution and destruction from wars endanger the survival of human beings and the Planet. A group of rebels will start a revolution to try to turn the fate of humanity around.

What if the utterly vital presence of our memory suddenly starts to fade away? This and many other questions about Alzheimer are explored in the short film Melody's murmur, directed by Fabio Barber, which will be traveling to the US this week. The title has been selected in the UPIKE Film and Media Arts Festival held in the city of Pickeville, Kentucky, on April 5th and 6th.
